Title: From energy-conserving quantum circuits to quantum Fisher information metrics
Abstract:
In this talk, I will give an overview of two ongoing projects. First, I discuss quantum circuits with gates respecting a global symmetry, or, equivalently, conserving a global charge, such as the total energy of the system. A series of recent works has shown that in the presence of symmetry, the locality of gates severely restricts the set of realizable unitaries. I explain how the type of restrictions significantly depends on the properties of the symmetry. In the second part of my talk, I discuss recent results in the context of quantum Fisher information metrics and their applications in the resource theories of quantum thermodynamics and asymmetry. In particular, I explain that for a certain class of such metrics, a quantum channel is sufficient for a family of quantum states (i.e., the input states can be recovered from the output) if and only if that metric is preserved under the quantum channel. This class includes, for instance, Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information, but not the SLD quantum Fisher information, as the most popular example of a quantum analog of Fisher information.
