Title: Information bounds on production in replicator systems
Abstract:
We investigate the relationship between information and the production of autocatalytic replicators in a flow reactor. We reveal how information costs — analogous to learning and prediction accuracy — impact replicator production in fluctuating environments. We also compare and contrast our findings with information-theoretic concepts such as side information and Kelly betting. The results are illustrated on a plausible model of self-assembled synthetic replicators, where they show the benefit of intrinsic memory in correlated environments. Our framework yields empirically accessible observables, enabling experimental measurement of information flows in chemical systems. In general, it suggests that information and memory may play an important role in guiding the evolution of prebiotic replicator networks.
